A journalist who refuses to stop asking difficult questions. A news programme determined to give overlooked voices a platform. A documentary that asks what happens to democracy when the press stops challenging power.

Steal This Story, Please! follows Amy Goodman through three decades of reporting, from the frontlines of global conflicts to the daily demands of producing Democracy Now! Undeterred by armed soldiers, evasive politicians and riot police, Goodman has built her career around uncovering stories that too often go unheard.

To celebrate the film's Australian cinema releases, we're giving away double passes in six cities. Each double pass admits two people, giving you the chance to share this thought-provoking documentary with a friend.

About the Film

Directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, Steal This Story, Please! takes audiences behind the scenes of Goodman's work and the convictions that drive it.

Raised in a tradition of asking hard questions, the warm, wisecracking granddaughter of an Orthodox rabbi brings determination, curiosity and humour to a profession under pressure. The film follows her as she navigates a media landscape reshaped by technology, corporate consolidation and political attacks on the press.

From confronting powerful figures to amplifying the experiences of people overlooked by commercial media, Goodman's reporting reveals the persistence required to hold power to account.

Urgent, provocative and unexpectedly funny, Steal This Story, Please! is both a portrait of a remarkable journalist and a celebration of independent journalism. It invites audiences to consider whose stories get told, whose voices are heard and why those choices matter.
