Restaurant Balzac began with Matthew Kemps desire to offer quality dining in Randwick. Indeed, as reviewer Matthew Evans put it: He could be cooking with more expensive ingredients at the top end of town but Matthew Kemp uses exemplary skill at a modest bistro. Every dish is a winner.

The demand for Matthews food grew so much that after only a few years, Balzac relocated to larger premises. Restaurant Balzac is now housed in a graceful historical two-story sandstone building; a perfect setting for Kemps elegant cuisine, which combines old-fashioned British comfort food with classic French techniques and innovative modern twists.
