An Evening with Mary Beard: Talking Classics
Friday 27 November 2026, 7.30pm
Riverside Theatre, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, WA.
What can a 4,000-year-old piece of bread tell us about history?
Why should we care about pots of paint abandoned during the eruption of Pompeii? And what connects ancient civilisations with modern figures such as Bob Dylan and Beyonce?
Mary Beard explores these questions and more, revealing why the art, literature and everyday lives of ancient Greece and Rome remain relevant today.
The bestselling author of SPQR and Emperor of Rome is internationally recognised for making classical history accessible, entertaining and thought-provoking.
Celebrating her latest book, Talking Classics: The Shock of the Old, Beard appears in conversation with a special guest host and invites questions from the audience.
Copies of Talking Classics will be available at the event, with a book signing following the performance.
Running Time
Approximately 110 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.
