KG Sports Bar brings an American-inspired game-day format to the heart of Brisbane, combining 15 screens, dedicated corporate boxes, live coverage of Australian and international sport, and a focused menu of wings, burgers and classic bar snacks at 90 Ann Street, opposite Brisbane City Hall.

A sports bar built around the game

KG Sports Bar has opened in Brisbane City with a straightforward idea: make live sport the main event rather than background entertainment.

Located at 90 Ann Street, opposite Brisbane City Hall and a short walk from King George Square, the venue is designed around watching games in company. Its 15 screens include two 100-inch feature displays, with additional screens positioned around the bar, high tables and private areas.

The set-up allows KG Sports Bar to cover a particularly broad sporting calendar. American competitions dominate many mornings, including the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball and NHL, alongside UFC and NASCAR. Australian and international fixtures continue through the week with NRL, AFL, cricket, Formula 1 and Premier League football.

For major matches, fights and races, the venue can switch from regular screening to a louder game-day format, with selected events shown live and loud. Pay-per-view coverage is also part of the program for selected UFC, boxing and other major events.

American sports bar food in Brisbane

The kitchen follows the same American influence as the screens. Rather than attempting an extensive pub menu, KG concentrates on burgers, chicken wings, fries and familiar game-day sides.

Wings can be ordered in servings of 10, 20 or 50, with sauces ranging from smoky KG BBQ and buffalo to habanero, green pepper jalapeno and bourbon chilli BBQ. Diners seeking considerably more heat can move into a separate range of Australian-made Chilli Factory sauces, including options rated at more than one million Scoville Heat Units.

Burgers include smashed Angus beef cheeseburgers, double and triple-patty variations and crispy chicken versions. A vegan burger is also available. Fries, potato gems, jalapeno poppers, onion rings and loaded fries round out the menu.

The kitchen currently operates from 11.30am to 9pm seven days a week. KG advises that it cannot offer gluten-free meals because its kitchen uses gluten-containing ingredients and shared cooking equipment, and no dish can be guaranteed allergen-free.

Beer, wings and live sport

Eight beer taps support the food menu, reinforcing KG's uncomplicated game-day approach. The venue is structured to work across several types of sporting session: a weekday lunch accompanied by an American fixture, an afternoon watching racing or motorsport, or an evening built around the NRL, AFL, cricket or football.

Doors generally open at 11am, although the venue's live schedule notes that some early international fixtures can begin before opening time. With US competitions often taking place during Australian mornings, visitors looking for a particular match are best advised to check KG's current schedule before travelling.

The venue also runs dedicated Siren-to-Siren events around selected major fixtures and finals, while fight days and race days can cover UFC, boxing, Formula 1, NASCAR and Supercars.

Private corporate boxes

A notable feature is the inclusion of two private viewing rooms: the Yankee Box and Fenway Box, named after two landmarks of American baseball.

Each box has lounge seating and its own 65-inch screen, allowing groups to watch a fixture separately from the main bar. The spaces accommodate up to 10 guests, while the standard corporate packages are structured for groups of up to eight over a 2.5-hour session.

Packages combine private viewing with food, with higher tiers adding drinks. Depending on the package, inclusions can extend from burgers, wings, fries and onion rings to tap beer, house wine, basic spirits, jalapeno poppers and KG slushies. Selected major sporting events may operate under separate ticketed corporate-box arrangements.

Functions and group game days

KG Sports Bar also caters for larger gatherings such as workplace functions, birthdays and team celebrations. Its function packages run for two hours and are available for groups of 15 to 50 people.

The Kickoff package combines wings, fries and onion rings with house wine and a selection of tap beers. The larger Touchdown package adds burger and chicken sliders as well as KG slushies. Drinks packages can be extended by the hour.

It is a format that keeps the function closely connected to the sporting action rather than separating groups into a conventional event room.

KG Sports Bar is now open at 90 Ann Street in Brisbane City, opposite City Hall and close to King George Square.

The venue publishes a live sporting schedule covering competitions including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Premier League, AFL, NRL, Rugby Union and UFC. As broadcast schedules and major-event arrangements can change, checking the current fixture calendar before visiting is advisable, particularly for international games and early starts.

Bookings are available for regular visits, while corporate boxes and larger game-day functions have separate booking arrangements. The food menu is served from 11.30am until 9pm daily, with a 15 per cent surcharge applying on public holidays.
