Sixpence None the Richer announce first Australian tour

Sixpence None the Richer are heading to Australia for the first time, with the US alternative rock band set to play a run of headline shows across the country in March 2027.

The tour begins at Canberra Theatre Centre on 2 March before visiting Wollongong, Newcastle and Sydney. After appearances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the headline itinerary continues through Tweed Heads, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Australian singer-songwriter Ella Hooper will join the headline dates as special guest. Best known as the frontwoman of Killing Heidi, Hooper has subsequently built a solo career spanning folk, country and Americana.

For Sixpence None the Richer, the Australian shows arrive more than 25 years after "Kiss Me" became a major hit here. The song spent three weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart in 1999 and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

The band's catalogue also includes its version of The La's "There She Goes", "Breathe Your Name" and a cover of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over", giving the Australian concerts a direct connection to one of the country's best-known songs.

A new chapter for Sixpence None the Richer

Singer Leigh Nash and guitarist Matt Slocum formed Sixpence None the Richer in Texas in the early 1990s. Their self-titled 1997 album provided the breakthrough that eventually carried "Kiss Me" to audiences around the world.

After extended periods away from touring, the group reunited in 2024 and returned to the road for its first substantial US tour in almost two decades. The reunion also produced Rosemary Hill, the band's first collection of new material since 2012.

Sixpence None the Richer followed with Live at Gruene Hall in 2025, recorded during a sold-out hometown-area performance in Texas. The band has since continued touring internationally, placing the Australian dates within a renewed period of recording and live activity rather than a nostalgia-only reunion.

"Kiss Me" has also found another audience in recent years, passing one billion Spotify streams and receiving triple-platinum certification in the US in 2024. Its continuing presence in film, television and social media has introduced the song well beyond the generation that first heard it in the late 1990s.

The March 2027 itinerary includes headline concerts in Canberra, Wollongong, Newcastle, Sydney, Tweed Heads, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The band is also scheduled to appear at the Port Fairy Folk Festival in Victoria on 7 and 8 March.
